Runway is not solely about clothing. It captures every inch of the
body--From the hair color, a button on a blouse, down to the nails.
Yes, NAILS. May seem minute to the average person but as a model, your
nails should always be a neutral color or reflect a natural look. According to
research, neat nails or short to medium length are the most attractive for
women and will minimize signs of aging hands. For more youthful hands, keep
nails at short to medium length but choose contemporary yet natural looking
colors.
Lately, I've realized, NO ONE WANTS BORING NAILS! As simple as it may
sound, natural nails are a bore, but the Fashion Industry knows how to play
them up & keep the hands the trendy piece of any outfit. In Spring 2012, Glamour Magazine covered the nail trends on
the catwalk.
Funky cool colorful tips, warm deep shellac(s), or prim and proper
manicures, Glamour attempted to show [us] change with a splash of color is
fine as long as it's tastefully done.
Whatever is attempted, I have a little nail advice for my aspiring or
professional models.
--Models,
1.
Be sure to maintain
clean as well as attractive manicures.
2.
Keep a few bottles
of your favorite neutral nail polish--we never know what is expected from us at
photo shoots or fashion shows.
3.
Keep your nails a
neat length that is pleasing to eyes (your audiences' eyes, NOT your own).
4.
Eat healthy
Vegetables, fruit, and water will help to keep the hands looking fabulous.
Believe me when I say,
ALWAYS. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. Maintain the manicure. You never know who’s
watching. -AL
